4-25-2021 “MUSTARD SEED FAITH!” Matthew 17:20

This week Bro. Leo dives us into a study of Biblical “faith” by examining the phrases “as a grain of mustard seed” and “say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place” in Matt.17:20.
These two phrases were proverbial sayings during Jesus’ time. 1) “Mustard seed” was meant to indicate something for the least or smallest amount. 2) “move the mountain” was meant to indicate something that is impossible for man to accomplish.
The analogy is of a seed that is alive. When you have faith it is alive, energetic and life giving (Luke 8:5,15). Faith is a lifestyle 2Cor.5:7).
There are steps of faith (Rom.4:12). Our “acts of faith” is one of the steps of faith. We see Abraham’s first step of faith in Gen.15:5-6. He took God at His word when He told Abraham that his seeds would be like the numbers of stars. Faith is personal and specific, such as our salvation or a particular circumstance we find ourselves in (Rom.4:3, 19-22).
God created us with the ability to have faith (Rom.12:3). We exercise our faith every time we ask Jesus to do something for us and we exercise the lack of our faith every time we fail to ask Jesus to do something for us (Matt.9:27-29). Jesus wants to know everything we want Him to do for us in faith (Luke 18:40-41).
Sometimes our faith falters even when we know Jesus is with us and we are going where He told us to go (Luke 8:22-25, Psa.56:13).
Scriptures used in today’s study:

4-18-2021 “WHAT JESUS SAYS ABOUT FAITH!” Matt. 17:14-20

This week Bro. Leo starts us on a new series of studies on the Biblical definition of faith, it’s purposes and how the Scriptures say it should effect us.
As an introductory to this series Bro. Leo leads us on a study of some of the things Jesus says about faith. Some of the questions this series will help us answer are 1)Do I live by faith? 2) Are there areas of my life where I am not depending on God, instead depending on my self? 3) Am I faithful to God? 4) How do I show God my faithfulness? 5) In what parts of your life do you have great faith? 6) In what parts of your life are you lacking in faith?
Rom.1:17 and Hab.2:4 tells us that the saved folks should be living by faith.
Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross is the work of God and the will of God (John 6:27-29, 40).
Jesus prays that our faith does not fail (Luke 22:31-32).
Matt.8:5-10,13 gives us an example of great faith. Most “born again” Christians have great faith that they are indwelt with the Holy Spirit and that they are going to Heaven, but not in there everyday life between salvation and Heaven.
Jesus tells us in Luke 7:50 that faith in Him saves us.
Take away faith and there is no other way to God. Without faith how can we expect to receive anything from God? (James 1:6-7).
In the Gospels we see Jesus taking the concept of faith into a personal, intimate, one on one relationship experience between Him and us (Mark 11:20-24, John 14:1-3). The prior concept of faith was in God, but He was in the place of Holy Holies and not accessible personally.
Faith is not a general term, faith is personal between us and Jesus and it is specific to areas of our lives(John 14:1-3).
In Matt.17:20 the word “faith” is translated from the Greek word “pistis” which means (saving faith) a mental activity or persuasion, a mental assent to, a belief in, agreement with God’s revealed truth that leads to a heart felt entrusting of or commitment to the person of Jesus Christ. It is the heart felt entrusting of or commitment to the person of Jesus Christ that differs “pistis” from “pisteuō” found in James 2:19, which is just believing in something or someone without the heart felt entrusting of or commitment to the person of Jesus Christ.

4-11-2021 “AND I SHALL RISE AGAIN! part2 Mark 10:32-34

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of the significance of the Resurrection to Christians.
Last week we learned the doctrinal significances of Christ’ Resurrection, 1)proves all Jesus’ promises are true, 2) proves Jesus is the Son of God, 3) proves Jesus’ sacrifice was sufficient for sins.
This week we look at how the Resurrection affects us personally.
1) Our faith in the Resurrection allows us to believe all the history told in the Bible (Heb.11:1-3). Past
2) Our faith in the Resurrection allows us to understand that this world is not all there is, it gives us a heavenly viewpoint (Heb.11:13-16). Present
3) Our faith in the Resurrection allows us to believe we are going to heaven which allows us to lay up treasures for heaven and not obsess about worldly treasures (Heb.11:35, Phil.1:23-24, Matt.6:19-20). Future
Our faith in the Resurrection should influence our daily lives (Phil.3:20-21). The word “conversation” in Phil.3:20 is translated from the Greek root word “politeuomai” which means how you conduct yourself as a citizen of a certain country.
Scriptures used in today’s study:

This week Bro. Leo leads us on a study of the significance of the Resurrection to Christians.
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the center point of Christianity. His Resurrection means that He is the Son of God(Rom.1:3-4), all His promises recorded in the Scriptures are true(Mark 10:34, Matt.28:5-6), His sacrifice for our judgement and punishment was accepted by God (Rom.4:24-25), His Resurrection Spirit indwelling us is a reality(Rom.8:9-11).
Please take some time on this Resurrection Day to listen to this audio study and meditate on what the Resurrection of Jesus Christ means to you as a Christian.
