This week Bro. Leo continues us in a study of what our Lord has taught him about the Biblical approach to our trials and tribulations, through his own tribulation with taking care of his Dad who has dementia.

Last week we learned we are to rejoice in our trials and tribulations, because 1) vs.3, we are going through the circumstances as a born again child of God, 2) vs.4, knowing that we are going to spend eternity with God, 3) vs.5, we can not loose our salvation, we are saved by the grace of God and kept by the power of God (1Pet.1:3-6, 2Tim.1:9-10, 12). As we go through the circumstances we need to keep in mind that God will sustain us through the trial (2Cor.4:17-18, 16).

This week we learn the purpose of our situations should be that God’s work in us can be manifested (John 9:1-5).

In the account of Jesus healing the blind man (John 9) we see the blind man get his sight, the blind man believes Jesus id the Son of God, the blind man testifies that Jesus did heal him and that Jesus is the Son of God, God is glorified through the experience. We also see that God used the experience to fulfill the prophecy of the Messiah (Luke 4:18-21).

In John 11 we read the account of Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead and the purposes for that was to strengthen the faith of Mary, Martha and the disciples (John 11:15, 21-26). We also see that many others believed upon Jesus after seeing the event (John 11:45).

In Isa.55:1-8 we learn that God’s thoughts and ways are different from ours and His ways will accomplish His will. The word “thoughts” is translated from the Hebrew words “machăshâbâh machăshebeth” which means purpose, intention or plan. The word “ways” is translated from the Hebrew word “derek” which means a pathway or journey that is traveled. When we go through tribulations and trials our mindset is usually “God please deliver me from this situation”, but instead we should have the mindset of “God how can I help bring you glory through this situation” (2Cor.1:8-10, Psa.73:28, Psa.121:1-8).

This week Bro. Leo deviates from the “Jesus you never knew” series, that we’ve been studying for the last year and half, to share with us part 2 of what our Lord has taught him about the Biblical approach to our trials and tribulations, through his own tribulation with taking care of his Dad who has dementia.

Last week we learned in Psa.142 we learn the Biblical approach to our trials and tribulations. 1) We cry out to God with our voice when we find ourselves in a circumstance that is out of our control (overwhelmed). 2) We share with God what our specific trouble is. 3) We acknowledge to God that He indeed knows the path that we should take. 4) We ask God to deliver us from the trouble for the purpose of glorifying Him.

This week we study the certainty of tribulations in this life (John 16:33).

In Rom.8:18 Paul tells us that what we suffer in these circumstances don’t compare to the glory that will be revealed in us. Paul was an expert on circumstances/lite affliction’s (2Cor.11:-29), 13 specific circumstances and 14 general circumstances and several concerns. Through all those circumstances Paul learned to be content because his strength came from Jesus (Phil.4:11-13).

In 2Cor.1:3-4,6 Paul tells us that God comforts us in “all” the circumstances we go through so that we learn how to comfort others who go through the same circumstances, God will use us to encourage/bless each other (Psa.50:14-15).

1Cor.10:13 and 1Pet.5:9 tells us no matter what we are going through there are others who have been in the same circumstances. 1Pet.5:10-11 tells us that these circumstances are used to equip us, grow us and establish us in our faith so that we can minister to others who may be experiencing the same circumstances. We come to God “just as we are”, but we are not to stay that way. We are to allow God to grow us spiritually.

Psa.42:6, Psa.61:1-4 tells us to remember all the trials that God has delivered us from in the past to reinforce our faith that He will deliver us once again. We should praise God for the circumstances we find ourselves in because He is growing us throught those circumstances (Psa.61:2, 8, Psa.77:1-14).

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of the Jesus you never knew by looking at what Jesus taught about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in a believer. The next several studies will answer three reoccurring questions that Bro. Leo has received, 1) Do you have Scripture that supports eternal security of the believer? 2) What is Jesus speaking about when He talks about the sin blaspheming the Holy Spirit? Matt.12:22-26, 28, 31-32 3) Can demonic spirits dwell within a believer indwelt with the Holy Spirit? 2Cor.6:14-16. Today’s study will answer question number one, but Bro. Leo does highlight all three questions in the beginning of this audio study.

The Holy Spirit is given to the believer by God (John 14:16-17, 20). Jesus sends us the Holy Spirit from Heaven (John 16:7, Gal.4:6). The gift of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit comes to both the Jews and the Gentiles. Example of the Holy Spirit indwelling the Jews, Acts 2:1-4. Example of the Holy Spirit indwelling the Gentiles, Acts 11:15-16.

The believer’s salvation is sealed with the Holy Spirit which is the “earnest” of our salvation (2Cor.1:21-22). The word “earnest” is translated from the Greek word “arrhabōn” which means part of a price paid or given as a pledge, a guarantee to confirm full payment, assurance of a future reception of the remainder.

The word “sealed” is translated from the Greek word “sphragizō” which means 1) to set a seal upon for the sake of security, 2) a seal or mark upon something as an attestment of it’s authenticity or approval (2Cor.1:21-22, 2Cor.5:5-6,8, Eph.1:12-14).

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
