Day 75 EEM-ANU-EL

“I’m going to teach you how to speak Hebrew,” said the teacher, “or at least one sentence.”

“I’m ready.”

“The Hebrew word for “with” is eem. And the word for “us” is anu.”

“Eem…anu,” I said.

“And the word for “God” is El.”

“El.”

“So how would you say ‘With us is God’?” he asked.

“Eem…anu…El.”

“Say it again.”

“Eem…anu…El. Eem anu El…Immanuel!”

“Yes, Immanuel. So Isaiah prophesied of Messiah, ‘A virgin shall conceive and give birth to a child and shall call Him Immanuel.”

“The name of Messiah.”

“And more than a name. In Hebrew, it’s a sentence. It’s a declaration, a reality. It’s the reality of Messaih. His very life on earth was this Hebrew sentence, a declaration in Hebrew—eem anu El.”

“How was His life a sentence?” I asked.

“When He was sorroful. Who was it who wasa sorrowful?”

“Immanuel.”

“It was Immanuel in sorrow,” said the teacher, “Eem anu El in sorrow. It forms a sentence: ‘God is with us in sorrow.’ And when He was in the boat on the Sea of Galilee in the midst of the storm, it was Immanuel in the storm. Eem anu El in the storm. It forms a sentence: ‘God is with us in the storm.’ And when He was despised and rejected of men, it was eem anu El in rejection.”

“God is with us in rejection,” I replied.

“When He hung on the cross in judgement, it was eem anu El in judgement.”

“God is with us in judgemnent.”

“And when He ascended to heaven, where He is, it was eem anu El forever.”

“God is with us forever.”

“Immanuel came into the world and to every circumstance of life, so that we could say, ‘At all times, in all places, in every circumstance…eem anu El, God is with us…always.”

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of the birth of Jesus Christ and what that event means to all mankind.

In Luke 2:10 the first thing the Angel said to the shepherd’s was “fear not”. It had been 400 years since the Nation of Israel had heard a word from God or Heaven, so it’s very possible that they thought they were about to be judged and that’s why they were afraid. Instead the Angel informs them of news of “peace”. The word “peace” in vs.14 is translated from the Greek word “eirēnē” which means to join or bring together two opposing or waring sides into a reconciliation relationship.

Before we are saved, we are the enemy of God (Rom.5:10, 8, 6, Eph.2:1-4). The prophesy of the Messiah in Isa.53:4-5 says the Messiah will pay our debt/punishment (chastisement) for our sins in order to reconcile us back into a relationship with God.

We must see and experience Jesus in order to leave this life in peace with God (Luke 2:25-30). Notice that the first thing Jesus says to his Disciples after His resurrection, “Peace be unto you” (Luke 24:33-36).

This week we study the similarities between Mary’s experience with God and the birth of Jesus and our experience with God during our salvation experience.

In Matthew 1:20 the word “of” is translated from the Greek word “ek ex” which means that which is being brought about or produced by. So, it was the Holy Spirit doing the work in Mary, but Mary had to agree to the terms.

It is exactly the same with our salvation. First we must agree/submit to the Holy Spirit’s conviction and then the Holy Spirit does the work (John 1:11-13, 1John 5:1, Gal.4:4-7).

2000 year old historical fact of God coming down to Earth to dwell among us: The very foundation of our salvation lays in our belief of the historical fact that Jesus was fully human and fully God (John 1:1-3, 14, Luke 3:22-23, Gal.4:4, 2Cor.5:19, 1Tim.3:16, John 14:9-11, Col.2:9, 1John 4:1-3, 2John 1:7, 1John 1:1-3, 1John 4:2).

The present day fact that God still comes down to dwell among us: At the time of our believing the 2000 year old historical truth of Jesus being fully human and fully God, God comes down to us in a personal manner indwelling us with His Spirit to reside with us permanently (Gal.4:4, 6, John 14:17-20).

For the last few weeks we have been studying what we should be asking God to bless us with. This week we start to study how we ask Him and how we hear His reply. Last week we learned that alone time with Jesus is a necessity, not an option. Notice in Matt.6:6 Jesus tells us “when” not “if” we pray. Jesus expects us to have quite time with Him. Jesus gave us examples of how we are to spend time with Him. In Mark 1:35, Mark 14:23 He departed from the crowd and went to a solitary place to be alone with God. In Psa.46:10 the word “still” is translated from the Hebrew word “râphâh” which means absence of noise, activity, or motion, a letting go. In order to hear God’s will for us we must first choose to place ourselves in His presence, for as long as it takes, with the expectancy of hearing Him (Luke 10:38-42).

This week we learn that after we make the choice to put ourselves in the presence of God we must be still (Psa.46:10). The phrase “be still” in Psa.46:10 is translated from the Hebrew word “râphâh” which means to relax ones grip upon something, to slacken or let go of, a giving over of something to another. In Exo.14:13-14 we learn that it is when we “still” ourselves that’s when God reveals Himself to us.

When we present ourselves to God we should do it in a thankful mindset (Psa.95:2-7, Psa.100:1-5).

Jesus gave us examples of how we are to spend time with Him. In Mark 1:35, Mark 14:23 He departed from the crowd and went to a solitary place to be alone with God. In Psa.46:10 the word “still” is translated from the Hebrew word “râphâh” which means absence of noise, activity, or motion, a letting go.

In order to hear God’s will for us we must first choose to place ourselves in His presence, for as long as it takes, with the expectancy of hearing Him (Luke 10:38-42).

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a Biblical study of how God wants our faith to progress from the day we’re saved until the day we pass from this life into eternal life.

Last week we learn that we should be asking God to give us His wisdom. In Col.1:9 the word “wisdom” is translated from the Greek word “sophia” which means a divinely imparted skill in navigating through or managing circumstances that result in a Godly or righteous outcome. Godly wisdom is the most practical blessing we can and should be asking for (1Kings 3:5-13, 16-27, James 1:5).

In Col.1:9-14 notice how Paul is praying for the Colossians to be “filled”, “in all”, “Strengthened with all might”. Paul is praying for increases in all those areas, which means those increases aren’t automatic when we get saved. Those increases have to be asked/prayed for (James 1:5-6).

God wants us to experience more and more of His resurrection power in our daily lives (John 10:10, Eph.1:15-22, Eph.3:20).
