This week Bro. Leo continues our study of the significance of our perspective of God.

In the Bible we are given several concepts of God.
1) Saviour
2) Judge
3) Tender Shephard
4) Consuming fire
5) Immense creator God
6) His voice calms the roaring sea and our hearts
7) His eyes see all things

There is an immensity of God that He appropriates to us.  Isa. 40:13-14, 21-22, 26 talks about how God designed creation.  We need to understand His design so that He can appropriate these things to us, 1) counselor 2) judgement 3) discernment 4) instructor 5) understanding.

God is the source of all wisdom, knowledge, instruction and counsel and He wants to appropriate that to us.  Prov. 3:5-8 tells us that God will direct our life if we allow Him to.  We allow Him to direct our life by seeking His counsel before we make a decision.  In Isa. 9:6 the word “counsellor” is translated from the Greek word “yâ‛ats” which means to advise or direct, to plan out with purpose and order.

When we have the correct perspective of God, we will seek God’s direction in every decision we make.  Anything less is sin, James 4:11-17.

In Luke 12:16-21 Jesus describes what happens when we exclude God from our decisions.  Notice that the “rich man” used the word “I” six times in this parable.  The number 6 represents man in the Bible and the number 7 represents the complete perfect number of God.

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of how our perspective of God influences how we see the world around us by looking at what our perception of God should be.

In Isaiah 6:1 and Psalms 45:6, 3-7 we read three descriptions of God.
1) God is on the throne.  He is above all, always has been and always will be.  2) He is a warrior God.  He wars against and hates wickedness.  The battle is not ours, it is His. 3)  God loves righteousness and those who are on the side of righteousness.

With this perception of God in mind we will always remember who is and who should be in control of every aspect of our lives.  This perception of God also reminds us of whom we need to depend on and trust on.

This week Bro. Leo leads us on a study of how our perspective of God influences how we see the world around us by looking at a few examples from the Bible.

In Isa.6:1 there are two components of Isaiah’s perspective of God.  1)  He saw the Lord in all His power, authority and majesty.  No matter what our circumstances are, God is above them.
2)  He saw the Lord in all of His purity, righteousness and holiness.  This perspective allows us to see ourselves and our circumstances.

We should see God as high and lifted up, but also as a caring God who reaches down to help us (Psa.147:1-9).  With this perspective we will rest in God instead of fighting against Him.

In 2Cor.4:16-18 Paul tells us to keep our focus on God because our circumstances are just temporary but God is eternal.  The phrase “look not at” is translated from the Greek word “skopeō” which means to intensely focus upon, to give much attention to to the point of much contemplation on.

Illustration:  The sun is 109 times larger in diameter than the earth, the volume of the sun is so great that you could fit 1.3 million planet earth’s in the sun.  Even as large as the sun is we can close one eye and hold a penny in front of the other eye and completely blot out the sun.  No matter how large our circumstances are, they can be blotted out by placing our focus on God by having the correct perspective of God.

This week Bro. Leo continues our study of the New Covenant Passover Feast by looking at what the Resurrection “Hope” mean to Christians.

1. What is the Resurrection Hope?
   A) The word “hope” in 1Cor.15:19 is translated from the Greek word “elpizō” which means an expectation with certainty of obtaining a future good.
   B) The Resurrection “elpizo” is 1Co 6:14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
2. Who posses it?
   A) Only born again Christians posses the Resurrection “elpizo”.  Eph 2:12 That at that time ye (Gentiles) were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope (elpizo), and without God in the world:
   Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Why is the Resurrection Hope life changing, vital and why does it energize us today, why does the certainty concerning the future of a Christian affect so dramatically the way we live today?
A) “elpizo” is a supernatural, spiritual expectancy and certainty that lives in the present and deals with the future.
It energizes us and propels us forward as we go through life.

1) future: 1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1Pe 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
1Pe 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

2) present: 1Pe 1:6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ

B) Our future certainty energizes us and enables us to endure our present day trials with joy and peace (Rom.5:3).  The word “experience” in Rom.5:4 is translated from the Greek word “dokimē” which means to experience someone and they prove themselve to you.  The more we experience Jesus the more He proves Himself faithful and trustworthy to us.  As we endure and experience Jesus and He proves Himself more and more how faithful He is to us in our present day life it fills us with hope as we deal with what ever we have to deal with in the future.  This is part of our Resurrection Hope.

C)  We should be able to tell folks about our Resurrection Hope (1Peter3:15) with absolute certainty (Phil.3:20-21).

This week Bro. Leo continues our study of the New Covenant Passover Feast by looking at what the Resurrection of Jesus Christ declares to us.

1.  What does the Resurrection tell us about Jesus? (Rom.1:3-4)
   A) Jesus is the Son of God
   B)  Jesus never sinned
2. What did Jesus do? (Rom.4:24-25)
   A)  Jesus carried our sins on the cross
   B)  Jesus’ sacrifice satisfied God of our sin debt, Jesus payed the total debt of our sin
3.   What does the Resurrection tell us about ourselves? (Rom.10:9-10)
   A)  We are saved if we believe in Jesus
   1) believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins
   2) He is the son of God
   3)  He lived a perfect life
   4) He carried my sins on the cross
   5)  He faced my judgement, condemnation, my hell
   6)  He rose from the dead with a glorified body
   7)  He came alive again, never to die again

   1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
   1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures

   When we believe we become adopted children of God.

   Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
   Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

   Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
   Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God

   Our culture teaches the lie that everybody is a child of God, but the absolute truth of the Bible is that only born again believers are children of God.

   Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
   Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
   Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
   Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
   Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
   Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

4.  It is very important to understand the doctrine of the Firstfruits (1Cor.15:20-23, Lev.23) to fully understand what the Resurrection declares to us.  Bro. Leo gives a great synopsis of the Firstfruits doctrine in this study, please listen to this recorded study to understand this doctrine.
5. What does the Resurrection tell us about our future? (2Cor.4:13-14, 1Cor.6:14, Rom8:9-11, 18-23)
   A) We will be raised from the dead with a glorified body

Once we believe and are born again our salvation is permanent (1Pet.1:3-5).

This week Bro. Leo continues our study of the New Covenant Passover Feast by looking at who should partake of the Lord’s Supper.

To recap what we have learned so far in this series,  1Cor. 5:7-8 brings out 4 points.
1) Jesus Christ is our Passover Lamb
2) Jesus is our Sacrifice
3) Jesus was sacrificed for us for our salvation
4) We need to have a renewed commitment and renewed focus on our present day sins(leaven).

Today, in 1Cor. 11:29 we learn that we should discern the Lord’s Body.  The word discern from the Greek word krinō  which means to distinguish clearly to possess the proper viewpoint, possess proper value on.
The proper discernment is the four points of 1Cor.5:7-8.
In 1Cor. 11:26, 29 we see that the proper discernment of  the Lord’s Body is not just our belief but also our salvation experience (John 6:47-58).

In 1Cor. 11:23, 26, 27, 29, 32 Paul uses the word Lord eight times.  The word Lord is translated from the Greek word kurios which means to belong to a person as a lord or a ruler, to belong.
The only people who should partake of the Lord’s Supper are the people who belong to the Lord as saved born again children of God.

This week Bro. Leo continues our study of the parallels of the Feast of Passover and the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Today’s study concentrates on the “unleavened bread” spoke of in 1 Cor. 5:7-8.  Bro. Leo also gives a refresher on the Passover Feast of the Old Covenant, which is critical to understanding exactly what Paul is talking about in 1 Cor. 5:7-8.

This week Bro. Leo starts us on a study series on the Crucifixion and Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by looking at the Biblical parallels of Passover Feast with the Crucifixion of Jesus and the significance of those parallels.

1Cor. 5:7-8 brings out 4 points.

The first three points are looking back at what Jesus did and at our salvation experience.  The fourth point is looking at our present sins and committing ourselves to allow God to remove those sins from our lives.

Exo.13:3-5 gives us the parallels.  God brought them out of the bondage of the Egyptians. They were to remember the day that were saved out of bondage.  Duet. 16:1-3 describes how they were to remember the day of their salvation by sacrificing their Passover Lamb and only eat unleavened bread.

In order to truly observe the Crucifixion in the spirit of the Passover Feast we have to see Jesus as the Son of God and as the Lamb of God.  We have to know that Jesus was not just a prophet, teacher and good guy, but we have to know that He is the Son of God and the Lamb of God who was sacrificed for our sin.

There is only one way to salvation and that is through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for our sin.  Jesus is our Passover Lamb!

The next few weeks we should be focusing on the event of the Crucifixion and on our salvation (Eph. 2:13-16).

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of the Biblical principles of prayer by answering the question “Why Pray?” part 2 the series finale.

This study series has shown us the both the Biblical principals of prayer as well as importance of daily prayer in our daily lives.  This week we also learn that our prayers are filtered by God’s Holy Spirit so that only our requests from His Spirit actually reach Him (Rom. 8:27).  We also learn that our prayers go to the altar in front of God’s throne (Rev. 5:6-10).

In Luke 11:1 we see that the Disciples realized the importance of prayer and asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.  God’s Holy Spirit is our teacher today and we should be asking Him to teach us how to pray (Jer. 33:3).

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of the Biblical principles of prayer by answering the question “Why Pray?”.

The obvious answer is God tells us to in the written Word.

Mat 7:7a Ask, and it shall be given you

Mat 7:8a For every one that asketh receiveth

Our relationship with God and our salvation began with us praying for it and we should continue our relationship/salvation in prayer for everything we need(Rom.10:13).  Notice in the scriptures used today that they are prayers for specific needs.  Our prayers should have a specific subject or request.

Scriptures used in today’s study:

Php 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Joh 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Joh 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Joh 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Exo 10:14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.
Exo 10:15 For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
Exo 10:16 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.
Exo 10:17 Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.

Exo 10:19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

Jos 10:11 And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

1Sa 1:10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.
1Sa 1:11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
1Sa 1:20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
