This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of the Biblical principles of prayer with part 3 “ASK, SEEK and KNOCK!”

In Matt.7:7 Jesus gives us the progression of prayer, 1)Ask, 2) Seek, 3)Knock.

Ask= make your request be known to God (Phil.4:6)

Seek= search out God’s will for the request you have made (Jer.29:12-13, 11)

Knock= knock vigorously with certainty

We should start our request with what we think we need, but with an open mind knowing that God knows what our true need is or what “good things” are for us (Matt.7:11).  This open mindedness will allow His Holy Spirit to reveal His will to us.  Once He reveals to us our true need we will have the confidence to knock vigorously and with certainty knowing that what we are requesting is in His will.

In Luke 18:1-8 we see the principle of repeatedly praying for a specific need.  “A sense of need is what gives our prayer a voice”-E.M. Bounds

We should be open to the influence of His Holy Spirit when we pray (Eph.6:18) because God knows what we truly need (Phil.4:19), we don’t always know what we need (Luke 10:38-42).  God is the only source of our needs (Phil.4:19).  We should pray for God to reveal to us what our real needs are (Matt.6:31-33).

Need is defined as a lack of something you require.  A deep intense sense of need is the true motivation of prayer.  In Rev.3:16-17 Jesus calls folks who mistakenly believe they have no needs “lukewarm” and that He will spue them out of His mouth.

In Luke 18:1-8 Jesus gives us the principle of repeatedly praying the same request.   We are to do this relentlessly and with focus, intensity and energy (Luke 18:1, Eph.6:18).  By praying in this manner we are opening our minds to the influence of His Holy Spirit (Eph.6:18).

In Matt.6:5-6 Jesus tells us what our mindset and purpose of prayer should be and what it should not be.  Our mindset should be one of honest communication with God (Matt.6:6).  Our purpose of prayer should not be to impress those around us (Matt.6:5).

This week Bro. Leo leads us in a study on how we should make decisions or plans.  This study goes along with last weeks study of “Needing God’s Wisdom”.

Often in a Christians planning and decision making process we depend solely own our own judgement, knowledge, wisdom without ever seeking God’s council or will.  In Joshua 3:1-11 we see that God had an exact location and time for the Israelite’s to cross the Jordan river.  God’s only qualifier for them was they had to stay a half mile behind God and allow Him to lead them.

The result of the Israelite’s allowing God to lead them was they would see God do wonders among them.  The story would have ended very differently if the Israelite’s had decided to determine their own route in their own time instead of following God’s lead.

How many times have we missed out on God’s wonders among us because we decided to determine our own route in our own time instead of allowing God to direct our path?  God has an exact path and pace for us, but we must seek His knowledge and wisdom instead of our own in order to realize it and His wonders among us.

This week Bro. Leo leads us on a study to learn about our need for and the availability of God’s wisdom.

There are two kinds of wisdom spoke about in the Bible, 1) the world’s/man’s wisdom, 2) God’s wisdom. The word wisdom is translated from the Greek word sophia which means, in the God’s Wisdom sense, the God given knowledge, guidance and counsel to manage, regulate and navigate lifes circumstances and relationships

In Eph.1:17 Paul is praying for God’s wisdom for the Ephesians.

In James 1:5 we are told to ask God for His wisdom and it will be given to us.  The word “ask” is translated from the Greek word “aiteō”  which refers to singular, specific and continual.  We should be asking God for His wisdom in every circumstance we face and every relationship we are in, including our relationship with Him.

This week Bro. Leo leads us in a study to find what God wants us to do after we accept His gift of salvation.

In Phil. 3:12-14 the Apostle Paul tells us three things that God expects us to after He saves us, 1) follow after vs.12,  2) reach forth unto vs.13,  3) press toward vs.14.

In Phil. 1:6 we are told that salvation is just the beginning of the work God wants to do to and thru us.  Spiritual growth starts at the moment of salvation (Eph.2:10) and we should grow spiritually after salvation (Rom.6:4).

Spiritual growth is the way we know what God’s will for us is (Eph.5:17-18, Jer.29:11-13).

This week Bro. Leo leads us in a study about how thew Bible describes time and how we should treat it.

God created time (Gen. 1:1-5,8).  God set time in motion and uses time for His purposes in His grand plan (John 11:9-10, Gal. 4:4-6). Time belongs to God!

There are two Greek words used in the New Testament that are translated as time.  1) chronos, which means the dimension of time, the forward movement of successive moments.  2) kairos, which means the use of time, that which time gives you an opportunity to do.

In Eph. 5:16 the word “time” is translated from the Greek word “kairos”.    In vs.15 the word “fool” is translated from the Greek word “asophos” to live without spiritual understanding, an inability to gauge or discern.  So Paul is telling us in vs.17 that we should be spending our time doing God’s will.

A great New Years prayer would be Psa 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

This week Bro. Leo continues his series on Christmas by looking at one of the affects of the birth of Jesus.

God sent His Son to us out of the love He has for us (1Pet.4:9-10).  Jesus came to not only offer us eternal life, but also daily blessings in this life (Psa. 68:19, Matt.7:11).

Jesus came to offer us His peace (John 14:27), God is the author of peace not confusion like the world offers us (1Cor.14:33).

In the same way that we have to accept the gift of salvation that Jesus offers us, we also have to accept the daily blessings and peace He wants to give us.  We accept these daily blessings and peace by staying in the will of God and we stay in His will by believing that He desires to bless us and give us peace daily (Psa.1, 4-6).

This week Bro. Leo continues his series on Christmas by studying the mission (purpose) of Christmas.

In last weeks study we learned that Jesus came to us to save us from the power, penalty, judgement, wrath and torment of our sin.  He came to give us victory over sin.  This week we learn that not only did Jesus come to give us victory over sin, but also to give us victory over our daily circumstances and trials.
