This week Bro. Leo continues his series on Christmas by studying why our Saviour was born.

Matt.1:21 tells us that Jesus came to save us from our sins.  He saves us from the power, penalty, judgement, wrath and torment of our sin.

It is God’s desire that everyone would be saved (1Tim.2:4), therefore Jesus came to offer salvation to everybody (2Pet.3:9).

Jesus is the only path to salvation (Acts 4:12) for everybody (Titus 3:4-7).

“There’s a difference between knowing about God and Knowing God, hearing the truth and receiving it.  The mysteries cannot merely be learned.  They must be partaken of, received.”

“How do you receive and partake of the mysteries?”

“By receiving Him who is behind the mysteries, who is behind all mysteries.  For behind all mysteries is the Truth.  And the Truth cannot just be perceived with one’s mind.  It must be received.  How do you receive the Truth?  As a bride receives her bridegroom.  You receive Him.  As it is written, ‘As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God….”
“Born again.”

“Yes,” said the teacher.  “In the end, it all comes down to that….and in the end, to one of two eternities-eternal life…heaven…or eternal separation from God..hell..  And there’s only one way to enter heaven-not by good works and not by religion, but by the new birth.  One can only enter heaven if one is born of heaven.  And so you must be born again.”

This week Bro. Leo starts a new series on Christmas by studying the Hebrew and Greek word that is translated to the English word wonder.

“pele'” is translated as “wonderful” in Isa.9:6 and “pele'” means extraordinary, wonderful, miraculous, astonishing.

“thauma” is translated as “wondered” in Luke 2:18 and “marvelled” in Luke 2:33.  “thauma” means to be struck with astonishment, startling or amazing, to take your breath away, to be stopped in your tracks.
The divine intention of “thauma” is to get our attention on God.  God causes these things to happen so that we will focus our attention on Him.

Christmas is an extraordinary, wonderful, miraculous, astonishing event that happened 2000 years ago.  Christmas tests our faith and tries our faith because we have to believe these events happened.  God has always done “wonders” for His people and among His people and His intention is always to get His people to focus their attention on Him.

In Luke 2:19 the word “pondered” is translated fro the Greek word “sumballō” which means to put things together in ones mind, to consider something thoroughly or deeply, to meditate on, think about, to drink it in, have to allow it to impact or affect you, divine wonderment and curiosity.

Dan. 12:4 prophesies why it is hard for us today to ponder the events of Christmas. In verse 4 the words “shall run to and fro” is translated from the Hebrew word “shûṭ” which speaks to the pace of life.

In this weeks study Bro. Leo continues a series on “thankfulness” toward God by looking at the biblical result of being grateful towards God for His grace.

Grace can be defined as the totality of all undeserved, unmerited, unearned, mercies and blessings bestowed upon all believers.  Grace should cause two things in a Christian 1) grace produces good works through us, 2) grace produces gratitude and thankfulness toward God (2Cor. 9:8, 11 Eph.2:10).   Receiving grace should produce an outflow of the overflow that God has bestowed upon us.

No matter what storm we face in life God will strengthen us enough to endure the storm (1Cor.10:13, Deut.33:24-25, 2Cor.9:8).  Knowing that God’s grace will strengthen us in every weakness/trial we have or go through should produce gratitude towards God for the weakness/trial and for the strength He gives us to endure it (2Cor.12:8).

In this weeks study Bro. Leo continues a series on “thankfulness” toward God, the Biblical depiction of what happens when a society or culture doesn’t have gratitude towards God.

The goal of a Christian should not be for God to increase what we have, but to increase our gratitude to Him for what we already have (Col. 1:9-12).

Romans 1:18, 23-27 depicts what happens when Christians don’t stress the need to increase their gratitude towards God by looking at the culture before the flood.  We can look at our current culture and see that we are very similar to if not identical to that culture.  The only way this will change is if Christians will stand up and acknowledge that they are thankful to God for the blessings He has bestowed upon them and upon this nation.

Col.1:12 the words “giving thanks” are translated from the Greek word “eucharisteō” which means gratefulness in ones heart and expressed by deeds and actions.
If we are truly grateful to God in our hearts it will be revealed through our deeds and actions so that folks around us will know (Col.3:15-17).

In this weeks study Bro. Leo starts a series on “thankfulness” toward God, what does it mean to have a spirit of, perspective of and a mindset of gratitude.

In Col.3:15 the words “and be ye thankful” are in a command text.  Paul is telling us we should always be thankful.

In Acts 27:35 the words “gave thanks” are translated from the Greek word “eucharisteō” which means 1) to show oneself grateful, 2) to be thankful in ones heart and to express that gratitude with word or action, 3) gratefully  acknowledge acknowledgement of God’s past mercies and blessings.

Col.1:9-14 can be read as a prayer of thanksgiving every day for yourself and your loved ones.

Our gratitude is not based on the amount or quantity of material things possessed, but on the amount or quantity of gratitude you possess for what you already have.  We should be thanking God for not only the material things that you have been blessed to acquire with the money that God has provided to you, but also for all the priceless things in your life like your family and loved ones, your health and the health of your family and loved ones.

We need to praying asking God to increase our gratitude for the blessings He has already blessed us with.

1. Faith gives us a higher purpose, Heb.11:16.

3. Faith gives us a higher life, Heb.11:33-35, Heb.13:14.
4. Faith gives us a higher accountability, 2Cor.5:7-10.

Our faith changes everything for us.  Our faith enables us to look past our current circumstances by giving us eternity to look at instead.

In this weeks study Bro. Leo continues our study of faith by looking at what the Bible tells us faith enables us to do.

Faith is a supernatural ability and gift given to us by God by which we have the privilege of understanding the things of God.

Faith allows us to know that God is everywhere in this world and in our lives, and that He created all things (Psa.139:7-12, Acts 17:22-28).

Faith allows us to believe every promise God has given us and that He will step in a specific situation and do what He needs to do.  Rom.4:18-21 gives us the example of Abraham believing that if he obeyed God and killed Isaac God would raise him from the dead and fulfill His promise of Isaac.

Faith enables us to know that God is everywhere and every day He is with us helping us in everything we do (Psa.68:19, Lam.3:21-26).

In this weeks study Bro. Leo continues our study of faith by looking at what the Bible tells us faith enables us to do.

God is and God does!  Faith enables us to know that God is real and ever present in this world and in our life.  Faith enables us to know that God is an active intervener in our life (Heb.11:1,6).

God has a wonderful hope filled plan for each of our lives (Jer.29:11).  Faith enables us to seek God’s plan for us and not seeking His plan for us results in our self removal from God’s plan (Heb.11:6, Eph.2:10).  Notice in Eph.2:10 it says “that we should walk in them”, it doesn’t say “that we will walk in them”.  We have to make the choice to either seek God’s plan for us or not to seek God’s plan for us, God will never force His plan on us.

In 1Cor.9:24-27 Paul gives us an example of how he constantly seeks God’s plan.

In the Hebrew language there is only one word that comes close to the English word “Coincidence” and that word is “Mikreh” and it means a happening from God.

In this weeks study Bro. Leo continues our study of the Biblical definition of faith by looking at the difference between making a decision based on circumstances and making a decision based on faith.

In Hebrews 11:1-3 the Greek word translated “substance” is “hupostasis” and it means a basis for a foundation.  The Greek word translated “evidence” is “elegchos” and it means an inward mental conviction concerning a specific truth.
So, the Hebrew writer is telling us that faith is the foundation of our life that allows us to believe every word in the Bible even though we did not physically see any of the events of the Bible.

In 2Cor.4:13-14, 16-18 we are told not to focus on our physical circumstances, but to focus on our spirit of faith(Holy Spirit).  Rom.4:19-22 gives an example of focusing on 1)God’s power, 2) God’s ability, 3) God’s faithfulness and 4) God’s promises concerning how He will handle the situation.

In this weeks study Bro. Leo continues our study of the Biblical definition of faith by looking at the Biblical first two steps of faith.

Step 1 and step 2 of faith can be found in Heb.11:8 and Gen. 12:1-4.  There we see that Abraham heard and recognized the voice of God and then he acted according to what God told him to do.  The first step of faith is to recognize the voice of God.  The second step of faith is to act upon what God tells us to do.

Step 1 and step 2 of faith can also be found in Matt.14:25-33.  There we see Jesus tell Peter to walk to Him on the water and Peter walked to him.  Notice that the disciples did not recognize Jesus by sight but they did recognize His voice.

There is only one way to do the will of God in a particular situation and that is to hear the voice of God, 1st step of faith (John 10:4-5).   A true Christian(born again) should recognize God’s voice(Isa. 52:6, 1Cor.2:11-16).

Once we recognize the voice of God then we have a decision to make, step or no step(Heb.3:12, 18-19).
