In today’s study Bro. Leo teaches the very specific Biblical principles for observing the NT Church ordinance of The Lord’s Supper.
- Participating in The Lord’s Supper is to publicly proclaim that you believe the historical crucifixion took place, that you believe and are waiting for Jesus’ second coming. You are proclaiming publicly that you believe in the death, resurrection and return of Jesus. In 1Cor. 11:26 the phrase “ye do shew” is translated from the Greek word “kataggellō” which means to declare, proclaim, tell plainly, openly and publicly.
- The bread and the cup are symbolic of Jesus body and blood (1 Cor. 11:26, 1Pet. 2:24, 1:18-19). By participating you are publicly proclaiming that Jesus’ broken body and shed blood cleanses you from all sin and therefore you have committed yourself to Jesus, you are a disciple of Jesus.
- Participating in The Lord’s Supper is also publicly proclaiming you have experienced His Holy Spirit indwelling you, you have had a born again experience. Only those who have been born again should participate in The Lord’s Supper (1Cor. 11:27-30, Gal.4:4-6, John 6:50-54, Eph. 2:2, Rom.8:9-11). Before participating in The Lord’s Supper you should examine yourself and be certain that you have had a born again experience ( 2Cor. 13:5-7). In 2Cor. 13:5 the word “reprobate” is translated from the Greek word “adokimos” and it means unapproved in this context which is supported by vs.7.
- By participating in The Lord’s Supper you are proclaiming Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
