This week Bro. Leo continues our study on hearing and listening to God.
We all have the ability to hear someone and not really listen to them. This happens when we do not process in our mind or understand what we hear. In Matt. 28:17 we read that the disciples did not understand what Jesus had told them about His Spirit indwelling them after His physical body departed.
The word “doubted” is translated from the Greek word “distazō” which means to waiver with uncertainty.
Jesus knew they didn’t fully understand and He affirmed His promise of always being with them again in Matt.28:20. Jesus was making it known to the disciples and to us that His indwelling Spirit is just as real as His physical presence was.
Understanding that Jesus is indwelling us with His Spirit is very important for us to understand, but equally important is hearing and listening to what His Spirit is telling us in our daily lives. His Spirit will convict us, inspire us, direct our decisions and strengthen us if we will listen.
The entire theme of the Bible is God’s desire to be with us both here on earth and after in heaven. God walked physically with Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, His Spirit is “in” every Christian today (John 14:17) and we will be in His physical and spiritual presence in heaven (Rev.21:3).
