9-1-2019 “WHAT DO WE REALLY KNOW?” Romans 8:28

This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of God’s promise of Rom 8:28 by looking at what is meant by “And we know” and how knowing should affect our daily lives.

In this study of Rom. 8:25 we have learned the promise of Rom. 8:28 is conditional, 1) only applies to the child of God, 2) and who is actively involved in their loving relationship with God, 3) and who is actively pursuing to be conformed into the image of His Son. What is God’s purpose for our lives (Rom.8:28)? God’s purpose for our lives is that we get renewed into His image (1John 3:203 Phil. 3:20-21). John 14:15, John 15:9-10, 12-13, 17, John13:34-35 tells us how to actively pursue to be conformed into God’s image. “His purpose” = God’s providence, which means by which God directs all events in the universe toward the accomplishment of His purposes and plan by the movement of His omnipotent unseen hand. God has a plan and God is in control!

If we satisfy those two qualifiers Rom.8:28 tells us that “all things work together for good”. The phrase “all things” is translated from the Greek word “pas” which means totality, all inclusive, no exceptions.

In Rom.8:28 the word “know” is translated from the Greek word “eidō” which means to perceive and grasp in ones mind, to understand something fully and to have it settled in ones mind (I know that I know), to establish settled knowledge of established facts and truths.

If we keep in mind the truths found in the Scriptures, we can go through any current circumstance without being stressed out over circumstances because “we know” how the story ends.

The opposite of “to know” can be found in Job Gen. 42:36. Jacob does not know the plan to get him and his family to Egypt.

Scriptures used in today’s study:

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

1Jn 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

1Jn 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

2Ti 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
2Ti 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
2Ti 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit:…

Joh 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Joh 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
