This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of Biblical humility by looking at how and why our positional mindset governs our humility and how our positional mindset results in God’s will being performed in our lives.
We have learned that in order to be Biblically humble we must understand and acknowledge our position in relationship to God. And that only then can God bless us(1Pet.5:5-6). In Rom.7:18, 21-23 Paul gives us a couple principals that we must understand and acknowledge in order to have the correct positional mindset.
1) we can not do any “good” under our own power.
2) even when we desire to do good we do not have the wisdom to perform “good”.
3) we are in a constant battle between performing “good” doing “evil”.
In order to fully grasp these principle we need to understand that “good” is the will of God and “evil” is anything that is not the will of God. What we consider “good” may in fact be “evil” if it is not God’s will in that particular situation.
Once we full grasp and acknowledge the above principals we can allow the Holy Spirit to input God’s will in our minds (1Cor.2:10-13) therefore causing a change to occur in our minds, which changes the way we think or reason about a certain situation (Phil.2:12-13).
We allow the Holy Spirit to input God’s will into our minds by praying and asking, here are a couple prayers Psa.51:10, Psa.139:23-24 and Phil.2:5.
Once the Holy Spirit inputs God’s will in us for a particular situation then we can perform His will (do “good”) Phil. 2:13.
Scriptures used in today’s study:
Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
Rom 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
1Co 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Pro 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Psa 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
Psa 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Php 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
