This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of Biblical humility by looking at how simple and easy it is to be prideful.
In Matt. 16:22 Peter places his own will above the will of God. In Peter’s mind it would be better if Jesus didn’t die, completely ignoring Jesus’ purpose. Peter thought he knew better than God. In Matt. 26:31-35 Peter was so confident in himself that he told Jesus He was wrong. Again in his own mind he thought he knew himself better than God knew him.
Pride blinds us from the truth about ourselves and our weaknesses, but God knows the truth about us and our weaknesses (Isa.55:6-11, Prov. 12:15, 3:5-7). Pride blinds us from what stands between us and God (Jer. 17:5-10).
Peter’s pride blinded him to the truth and when he realized it he was humbled and repented (Matt. 26:69-75). To prevent this from happening to us we need to pray for God to search us and reveal to us the truth about ourselves (Jer. 17:10).
