This week Bro. Leo starts and will continue next week a deep study on 1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1) “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man”  We are never confronted with any temptation, trial or tribulation that is exclusive to just us, other Christians have, will or are currently facing a similar circumstance.

2) “but God is faithful” Paul writes this statement to enforce the fact that we can trust that the rest of the verse is true and we can depend on it (Heb. 13:5-6).  God is totally dependable, perfect, omniscient and all powerful.

3)”who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able” All Christian are at different spiritual level (1Cor. 3:1-3, 1Cor. 2:15-16, 12-14, Heb. 5:12-14), at what ever level we are at God will not allow us to go through anything beyond our spiritual level capabilities.

4) “but will with the temptation also make a way to escape” pathway= make a way= narrow pathway of purpose.  This pathway will 1) strengthen us 2) teach us 3) grow us spiritually 4) provide a way to glorify God 5) to be used to witness to others.

Review of the Greek words “exousia” and “dunamis” that are translated “power” in the New Testament, from last weeks study.

1) “exousia”= to have authority over something or someone, to have the right to do something, and to have the power to do it.  The right and the authority to do a certain action. (John 10:18)

2) “dunamis”= all mighty divine supernatural power, energy and action.  An action of God.  (Rom. 1:20, Luke 24:49)

Every born again Christian has “dunamis” and “exousia” living in them and this  “dunamis”/”exousia” is the Power of the Resurrection/Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9-11, 15-16).

The Power of the Resurrection gives us authority and victory over anything that comes against us (1Cor. 15:24).  Notice that “exousia” and “dunamis” are both used in 1Cor. 15:24.

Jesus did not sacrifice Himself for us for the sole purpose of our salvation, He also sacrificed Himself so we believers can have victory over every stronghold that comes against us in our daily life (John 10:10).   He accomplishes this by indwelling us with “dunamis”/”exousia”, the Power of the Resurrection, His Holy Spirit.  The word “life” in John 10:10 is translated from the Greek word “zōē” which means blessed life.

Every born again Christian is equipped to have victory in every aspect of our lives, we just have to choose to believe it, choose to pursue it,  choose to experience it and not settle for anything less.  God is not our co-pilot, He is our pilot and He wants to free us from everything that is binding us.  All we need to do in order to be freed is ask God to reveal to us what exactly is binding us and then ask Him to free us, from what ever it is, with His “dunamis”/”exousia”, the Power of the Resurrection, His Holy Spirit.

Christianity is not about religion or being a Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Catholic or any other name on a building.  Christianity is about a personal, dynamic, real, intimate relationship with the Spirit of Jesus Christ.  Christianity is about a movement.   “Spirit” is translated from the Greek word “pneuma” and it means breath, wind any kind of wind that is in motion.

In the New Testament the word “power” is translated from two Greek words.
1) dunamis= energizing power that moves within us, it convicts us, comforts us, guides our minds, speaks to our hearts and minds.  It is a real entity that enters your heart and soul, unites with our spirit at the moment we are saved (Rom.8:14-15).
2) exousia= to have authority over something or someone.  Jesus has “exousia” over death (John 10:18, Acts 2:23-24).  Jesus died the death of every sinner that has ever been born into humanity for all time.  Jesus carried the cause of all our deaths on His body.  He faced the death, the judgement, the wrath of God for all of humanity and was laid with that weight, that burden on His body and upon His being in that tomb.  All this was cast off by the Resurrection Power of Jesus Christ.  How powerful is the Spirit of the Resurrection Power?

At the moment of our salvation we receive the Spirit of the Resurrection Power (Rom. 8:9).  If you do not have the Spirit of the Resurrection Power in you you are not a Christian (Rom. 8:9).

Death is our greatest, most powerful enemy and the Spirit of the Resurrection Power has defeated death (1Cor.15:26).  With that same Spirit we also have the ability to defeat any stronghold and fears in our daily life (Heb. 2:14-15, 1Cor.15:24, 54-57).

The resurrection power of God is what brought Jesus from death to life (Col. 2:12).  Jesus has the resurrection power of God (Rom. 1:4).  The resurrection power of God has the ability to raise death to life and raise death to life while every demon and Satan was trying to hold Jesus in a state of death (Col.2:15,  Eph.1:21).

The resurrection power of God is available to everybody who believes in the resurrection of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is the resurrection power of God! (Luke 24:49, Rom.8:14-15, 10-11).   The resurrection power of God is with us every day and we should desire and seek to be filled with it daily to overcome our every situation of our life (Phil. 3:9-10,  Eph. 1:19).

Impart, indwell, empower, experience; God imparts His resurrection power to us when we believe by indwelling us with His resurrection power, empower us with His wisdom and strength, experience the resurrection power of God daily.  All true Christians have the resurrection power of God imparted to and indwelling them, but most are never empowered by or experience His resurrection power in their daily lives because God can not empower us to do our will and we are not willing to give up our self desires and seek His will.

Our sins separate us from God, but through His grace God designed one and only one instrument to reconcile us back into a relationship with Him, Jesus and the cross (Acts 4:7-13, 2Cor.5:18).

God came to the cross to reconcile us and we must go to the cross to be reconciled (2Cor.5:19-21,  2Cor.5:14-15).  We are not reconciled to God through religion, religious leaders or good works, it is Jesus and the cross that is the only instrument of our reconciliation with God (Gal.2:20-21,  Rom.10:5-7,3).

Today Bro. Leo continues his series “THE CORNERSTONE OF CHRISTIANITY” with a Bible study “THE PERFECT LIFE!” of Jesus Christ and what that means to us and how it should make us think.

The scriptures tell us that there is only one way to salvation (Acts 4:12) which is through Jesus and not through religion or religious leaders (Acts 4:11).  1Pet. 2:6-8 goes on to say that Jesus is the head cornerstone/foundation of salvation.   Religions and religious leaders that require folks go through them for salvation (works based religions) are foolish because they do not rely solely on Jesus and His work on the cross for salvation (1Cor. 1:18-24).

2Cor. 5:14-15 tells us that Jesus took upon Himself all the sins of man so that all that would receive Him would be made into the righteousness of God.  The righteousness of God is total obedience to God’s laws, all 613 Levitical laws.  The righteousness of God is total perfection and the only way to salvation (Matt. 5:48).  Jesus is the righteousness (total perfection) of God to anyone who will receive Him (Matt. 5:17-18,  Rom. 1:4).

We can not achieve the righteousness of God by any work that we do on our own, we can not be in perfect obedience of the 613 Levitical laws through our own strength and power (Rom. 10:3).  We only receive God’s righteousness by faith in Jesus and what He did for us on the cross (Phil. 3:9).

Today Bro. Leo starts a new series “THE CORNERSTONE OF CHRISTIANITY” with a Bible study, “HE BORE HIS CROSS FOR YOU!”, searching for exactly what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith and this series of Bible studies will search for 1) who He is  2) what He did and 3) why He did it.

Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment of sin from us, after three days He rose from the dead,  He rose from the dead with a glorified body (1Cor.15:3-4, Luke 24:36-43), if we believe and trust what Jesus did for us on the cross we will also rise from the dead with glorified bodies (Phil.3:20-21).

Jesus bore our sin and sacrificed Himself for us out of His love for us (John 10:11-15, 17-18, John 15:12-13).  Jesus did this so that we could be reconciled back with God (Rom.5:8, 1John 4:7-10).

Jesus’ commitment to us, His ultimate sacrifice, sets the example that we must adhere to in order to be His follower.  We must commit our everything to His authority and Lordship (Matt.16:24-25, Luke 14:24-27, 33, 28-30).  Jesus must have 1st priority in our life, above everyone and everything else that we love.

Our total commitment to Jesus as our Lord is made easy if we consider 1) God loves us and our loved ones more than we do  2) God knows better than we do how to handle every situation in our life.

This week Bro. Leo continues a series of Bible study’s to learn what God’s part of our sanctification/spiritual growth according to the scriptures by studying the scriptural definition of God’s Rest.

In Hebrews 4:10-11 we find the definition of God’s rest.  The Hebrew writer defines God’s rest as ceasing fleshly efforts.  To enter into God’s rest we must depend solely on God to perform or accomplish the work.

To illustrate his point, the Hebrew writer uses Moses and the Israelite’s 40 year journey in the wilderness (Heb.3:18-19).  In Numbers 13 and 14 we given the account of Moses and the Israelite’s journey.  Notice in Num. 14:22-23 we are told exactly why they could not enter into God’s rest.  They could not enter in because they were not trusting in God to do the work, but instead were trusting in their own strength which they knew was not enough (Num. 13:31-33).

We enter into God’s rest daily the very same way we enter into salvation.  We 1)believe  2)trust  3)depend  4)expect.  It is our total faith in God to sustain us in every circumstance of life that allows us to enter into His rest.  Therefore, the only thing that will prevent us from entering into His rest is our sin of unbelief (Heb. 3:19).  Any time we are not trusting God we are rebelling/sinning against God (Num.14:9,  Heb.3:7-12).

This week Bro. Leo continues a series of Bible study’s to learn what God’s part of our sanctification/spiritual growth according to the scriptures by studying the scriptural definition of God’s grace and our need for His grace in our everyday life.

God’s grace has two attributes according to the scriptures.  1) attitude of grace=His loving kindness towards us (Eph.2:7)  2) actions/power of His grace=gifts and miracles He brings into our lives (Eph.2:8).

There are two principles of God’s grace presented in the scriptures.  1) His grace is always presented in the scriptures as specific, such as salvation or dealing with a specific circumstance, and is never presented as a general term (Eph.2:8, Col. 2Cor.12:7-10).
2)  We are suppose to live our lives in God’s grace (Col.2:6, Rom.1:17).

The scriptures clearly instruct us to rely on God’s grace not only for our salvation but also for our every need in our daily life.  God’s grace in our daily lives does not come to us automatically or by default just because we are Christians.  Like our salvation, we must realize our need for God’s grace, seek His grace and have faith that He will give us His grace.

This week Bro. Leo continues a series of Bible study’s to learn what God’s part of sanctification/spiritual growth according to the scriptures, with part III covering our present day walk as a Christian.

The scriptures in today’s study clearly teach that the sanctification/spiritual growth of a Christian is not accomplished via the flesh-his/her own efforts-the law, but by the power and grace of God working in the Christian.  The works of the flesh equate to us having a desire to commit a sin, but choosing not to because we know it is unlawful/sin.  The works of God’s grace and power keeps us from committing that same sin by completely removing our desire for it.  The ‘law’ says we have to accomplish it, Grace says ‘Jesus will do it for us’.

We receive God’s grace and power (living water) daily the same way we received His grace and power for our salvation, we seek Him and believe He will give it to us daily.
