2-3-2019 “PRAISE GOD FOR THE THORNS!” PartII 2Corinthians 12:7-11
This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of Biblical humility by looking at how and why God uses “thorns” to humble us.
So far in this series we have learned that humility is a work of humanity. Humility is a positional mindset in where we realize our physical and spiritual dependence on God. And, God can only bless the humble.
This week we look at the Biblical principles of God humbling us in 2Cor. 12:7-10. Vs.7 tells us, that if needed, God will allow Satan to give us a “thorn in the flesh” (physical infirmity). Vs.8 describes the initial reaction of most folks, we ask God to remove it instead of asking God why He allowed it. When we ask why, God will answer us and His answer will allow us to rejoice in the “thorn” knowing that we will become stronger in Christ because of it, vs.9-10.
The thorn that Paul received was given to him for the purpose of keeping him humble by making him so weak that he was forced to depend on God and not himself. Anytime we depend on self we are being prideful whether we realize it or not, we are saying we don’t need God and God is not providing self is. Anytime we are prideful God has to withhold blessings from us (James 4:6).
It is our responsibility to always seek humility (1Pet. 5:5-9). We must put forth effort to seek humility and seek God.
In John 3:27-31 is a great example of humility and can be used as a prayer of humility.
God deals with us in specific ways for specific reasons for our good (Heb. 12:5-7,11).
Scriptures used in today’s study:
2Co 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
2Co 12:8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2Co 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Joh 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Jas 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Jas 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Jas 4:5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
1Pe 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
1Pe 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
1Pe 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1Pe 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Joh 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
Joh 3:28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
Joh 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
Joh 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Joh 3:31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
2Co 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
2Co 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
1-27-2019 “PRAISE GOD FOR THE THORNS!” 2Corinthians 12:7-11
This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of Biblical humility by looking at a few Biblical examples of humility and of pride.
In 2Cor. 12:7-11 Paul explains to us that it is his physical infirmities that keep him humble and he was thankful for them. Paul had a good understanding that God can only bless the humble (James 4:5-7, 1Pet.5:5-6).
Paul was explaining this to the Corinthians because they were being prideful and it was causing strife within the Church (1Cor.1:10, 1Cor.3:1-6). It was their pride of their leaders that was causing the strife between them (1Cor.1:12). Their pride had allowed their minds to drift from Christ who should always be the center of our attention (1Cor.1:13). The Corinthians were setting themselves above their brothers the same way we today set ourselves above our brothers when we claim our “religion” (Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Catholic, etc.) is better than others.
When we worship our entire focus has to be on God. There is not room for any amount of pride or self exaltation in the service and worship of God. Any amount of pride, no matter how small, will take away a portion of our focus on God and could take away our entire focus from God.
2Co 12:11 I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
2Co 12:1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
2Co 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
2Co 12:3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
2Co 12:4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
2Co 12:5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.
2Co 12:6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.
Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1Co 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
1Co 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
1Co 1:14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
1Co 1:15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
1Co 1:16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
1Co 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
1Co 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
1Co 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
1Co 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1Co 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
1Co 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
1Co 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
1Co 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1Co 10:9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
1Co 10:10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1Co 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1Co 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
1Co 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
1Co 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:
Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
Mat 23:6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
Mat 23:7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
Mat 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
Mat 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Mat 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
Mat 23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
Mat 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Joh 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
Joh 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
Joh 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
Joh 5:44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
Joh 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
Joh 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Mat 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Mat 6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
1-20-2019 “MY SAVIOUR MY SUSTAINER!” Philippians 1:3-6
This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of Biblical humility.
Humility is a positional mindset, last week we studied our physical dependence we have of our Creator God and this week we study our spiritual dependence of God.
God saves us and God sustains our salvation (Phil.1:6). God saved us in our past (1Peter 1:3). God promises an inheritance incorruptible in our future (1Peter 1:4). God sustains our salvation daily (1Peter 1:5).
In order to be Biblically humble we must understand and acknowledge our position in relationship to God.

1-13-2019 “CHRIST MY CREATOR AND SUSTAINER GOD!” Collosians 1:15-19
This week(1-13-2019) Bro. Leo continues us on a study of Biblical humility.
Humility is a positional mindset, so this week we are studying our physical dependence we have of our Creator God.
God created everything in this world including us (Col.1:16). God sustains all things that He created (Heb.1:3). God created each and everyone of us and He sustains us with every breath we breath(Psa.139:13-16, Acts 17:25,28).
Acknowledging the fact that God created our physical bodies and the fact that God sustains our physical being is one aspect of Biblical humility.
Scriptures used in today’s study:
Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high
Psa 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
Psa 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psa 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psa 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Act 17:23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
Act 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
Act 17:25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
Act 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Psa 100:1 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Psa 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Psa 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Psa 49:5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
Psa 49:6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
Psa 49:7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
Psa 25:4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
Psa 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
Psa 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
Psa 139:18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
1-6-2019 “OUR NEED OF HUMILITY!” Philippians 2:8
This week Bro. Leo continues us on a study of humility. The first study, 12-30-2018 “THE GREAT BLESSING OF HUMILITY!” Philippians 2:6-11, of this series can be heard at https://waynecountybiblecenter.com/sermon/
In Phil. 2:7-9 we find the Biblical principle of humility. When Jesus took on the form of humanity He set the perfect example of humility. Humility is a work of humanity. Exaltation is a work of God (Phil.2:9).
In 1Peter 5:5-6 we see the principal of humility applied to us. Humility is a mindset that we have to clothe ourselves with. The opposite mindset is pride and God stands against pride.
The word “humility” is translated from the Greek word “tapeino” which means a lowering of the mind concerning oneself and your position before God, to esteem your position with God. Humility places God in His correct position above oneself. Humility also puts oneself in correct position with others.
In Romans 12:3 we again see the mindset of humility, “think of himself more highly than he ought to” “but to think soberly”.
In Romans 11:18-21 we are given an example of being religiously high minded. In 1Tim.6:17-19 we are given an example of being materially high minded. In Luke 18:9-14 we are given an example of being positionally high minded.
Being high minded (prideful) has existed from before creation. In Isa.14:12-15 we read how Satan exalted himself above God and was knocked down. In Gen. 3:4-6 we Adam and Eve attempt to exalt themselves. In 2Thess.2:3-4 we read how the anti-Christ exalts himself. All three examples have one thing in common, they all fail to place themselves in the correct position with God. They all failed to humble themselves.
We are also given example of humility in the Scriptures: Isa.6:1,5, Job 42:1-6, Luke 5:4,8 and in 1Tim.1:12-15.
The foundation of humility is realizing who we are (sinners) and realizing that is God and God’s grace that sustains and saves us (1Cor.15:8-10, Eph.3:7-8, Rom.3:21-22, 26-28.
Scriptures used in today’s study:
Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Php 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
1Pe 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
1Pe 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Rom 11:18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
Rom 11:19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
1Ti 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1Ti 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
1Ti 6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Luk 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Luk 18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
Luk 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Luk 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Luk 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Luk 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Isa 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

Luk 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
1Ti 1:12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
1Ti 1:13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
1Ti 1:14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
1Ti 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
1Co 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
1Co 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
1Co 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
Eph 3:7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
Eph 3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
Rom 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Rom 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Rom 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Rom 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
12-16-2018 “THE CHRISTMAS ‘DAY STAR’!” 1Peter 1:19
This week Bro. Leo continues us on a Christmas study series by looking at the phrase “day star” in the Scriptures.
Last week we learned that the word “glory” in John 1:14 is translated from the Greek word “doxa” which means the true nature and substance of what something is intrinsically, qualities of, nature of, substance of. Example: water is a combination of 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part oxygen. The hydrogen and oxygen is the “doxa” of water. Water can be in the form of liquid, solid (ice) and vapor. In all 3 forms it’s “doxa” is exactly the same.
In John 10:30 Jesus tells us that He and God are one in the same. The word “one” is translated from the Greek word “hen” which means one in essence, one in quality, one in substance. So, all three forms of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one in essence, one in quality, one in substance. To see God we need not look any further than Jesus.
In 1Tim. 3:16 the word “manifest” is translated from the Greek word “phaneros” which means to shine forth, make known, draw attention to, come to cause to be seen. Christmas is a shining forth of God to the earth. Jesus tells us in John 8:12 and 9:4-5 that He is the light that is shining forth. He also invites us to come to the light, He wants to draw us to the light (John 3:19-21, 18).
In 2Pet. 1:19 the phrase “Day Star” is translated from the Greek word “phōsphero” which means a carrier of light, a bearer of light. Jesus is the only carrier and bearer of God’s light. In Rev. 22:16 Jesus declares Himself the “bright and morning star” which is the “Day Star”.
In Luke 1:78 the word “dayspring” is translated from the Greek word “anatolē” which means the rising of light, the exact moment a point on the horizon where the sun crest breaks upward. Zacharias was prophesying about the birth of Jesus.
Just like the Shepherds, Wise men and Herad, everybody must either accept the Day Star or reject Him.
“manifest” = “phaneros” = to shine forth, make known, draw attention to, come to cause to be seen.
“Day Star” = “phōsphero” = a carrier of light, a bearer of light.

Isa 60:4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.
Luk 1:76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
Luk 1:77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
Luk 1:78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
Luk 1:79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
2Co 4:5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
2Co 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
12-9-2018 “HE THAT HAS SEEN ME!” John 14:5-10
This week Bro. Leo continues us on a Christmas study series by looking at the Biblical answer to the question “What is Christmas?”
In John 1:1-3, 14 and 18 we see that Jesus was God and in existence before creation, Jesus created creation, Jesus became flesh on earth and Jesus revealed God to us. In vs. 14 the word “glory” is translated from the Greek word “doxa” which means the true nature and substance of what something is intrinsically, qualities of, nature of, substance of.
In Hebrews 1:1-3 The word “brightness” is translated from the Greek word “apaugasma” which means to shine forth or to emit light. Brightness is always used in the scriptures for a metaphor for personal revelation. Jesus is the shinning forth from heaven to earth of the nature glory and substance of God.
In Hebrews 1:3 the words “expressed image” is translated from the Greek word “charaktēr” which means exact representation of. Jesus is the exact representation revealed of God’s divine being.
In Colossians 2:9 the word “Godhead” is translated from the Greek word “theotēs” which means deity as it is applies to personality and character. The divine intrinsic personalty and character of God are fully enveloped in the body of Jesus.
What is Christmas? Christmas is when God came to earth to reveal Himself to us.

12-2-2018 “THE GREAT I AM IN THE MANGER!” John 8:56-59
This week Bro. Leo continues us on a Christmas study series. Last weeks study revealed to us that Christmas is a Father and Son. This week we study to find out who exactly Jesus the Son is.
In John 8:58 when asked by the Pharisees how He could have seen Abraham, Jesus answered them with “I am”. God first called Himself “I am” when Moses asked Him who he could say sent him (Exo.3:13-14). The phrase “I am” is translated from the Hebrew word “hâyâh” which means to be, to exist, eternal timelessness of God. In John 1:1-2 we are told that the Word (Jesus) was with God before creation. Jesus came into the world at Bethlehem but He did not come into existence at Bethlehem, He was in existence before creation (Col. 1:16-18).
In Matt.1:20-23 the angel gives the Son two names, Jesus which means saviour and Emmanuel which means God with us. Christmas is about God getting personal with us.
Scriptures used in today’s study:
Luk 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
Luk 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

Luk 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

11-25-2018 “A FATHER AND SON STORY!”” Isaiah 7:14
This week Bro. Leo starts us on a Christmas study series. As Christians we have all heard and read the story of the birth of Jesus Christ, so much so that we are no longer awed by the story. This year attempt to put yourself in the shoes of the Jewish people 2000 years ago.
Those folks only had knowledge of Jesus through the prophesies of the Old Testament (Isa.7:14, Isa.9:6-7). Imagine what they were thinking when they started hearing the stories of a virgin birth in Bethlehem. Imagine what they were thinking when they heard that the father of this baby lives in heaven (Luke 1:32, Luke 2:13-14).
What made it possible for those folks to believe what they were hearing and what enables us to believe what we read in the scriptures? In Matt.16:13-17 Jesus explains to us that it is His Father that reveals to us the truth. In vs.17 the word “revealed” is translated from the Greek word “apokaluptō” which means to remove a vail and expose something that is there, to open view, to see and understand something that was previously hidden.
As we study the birth of Jesus Christ we should be praying that God will reveal His truths to us.
Scriptures used in today’s study:
Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
